Each media player is a fully-fledged PC running an operating system. They are each paired with a power supply designed to deliver adequate power to the device. If you are using a non-standard power supply, or your power supply has started to fail you may see symptoms such as:
- Stuck/frozen during boot at random points in the boot process
- Random rebooting
- Graphic/video distortion in the form of vertical or horizontal lines
- Other random system instability
Many of our earlier SAMSticks have a micro-USB power connector. While it might be tempting to use any mobile phone charger lying around, or the USB port on the monitor/TV itself, these all rarely deliver enough current to power the SAMStick.
The earliest SAMSticks use a micro-USB power supply of 5Volts, 2Amps (5V/2A, printed on the "wall-wart").
The earliest SAMSticks use a micro-USB power supply of 5Volts, 3Amps (5V/3A, printed on the "wall-wart").
You *CANNOT* use a 5V/2A power supply, or weaker, with a device that requires a 5V, 3A power supply.
You *CAN* use a 5V/3A power supply with a device that requires a 5V/2A.
None of our devices use a power supply that is weaker than 5V/2A.
The newest SAMSticks use a "barrel-style" connector that is not compatible with the older devices.
