Creating a USB Repair Stick

Creating a USB Repair Stick

  1. You must use a PC for the procedure below. macOS requires a different flashing utility.

  2. Obtain a 4GB or larger USB flash drive and insert it into your PC

  3. Download the latest OS for your device here: https://www.runsam.com/downloads - select and download the OS for your device. Most devices will be using Intel 64 Bit UEFI (SAMStick), Stable branch.

  4. Open the .zip and extract the .img file to your desktop. You should be able to drag and drop it onto the desktop. If not, click the Extract button in Windows File Explorer.

  5. Download the USB flashing utility for Windows: https://www.runsam.com/download/fetch?key=Tools/rufus-3.21.exe

  6. Double-click the .exe file you just downloaded to open the utility. Depending on your security settings, your system may display a message asking you to confirm opening the file from an unknown source. It is safe to do so.

  7. Click the SELECT button to browse for the .img file you extracted in step 2

  8. Ensure the correct target device is selected in the Device dropdown menu. ** It will never be C: and rarely be D: ** ***Be very careful here not to overwrite other USB media that might be plugged into your system!***

  9. If you have more than one device/drive listed and you are not confident that the drive letter you've selected is the correct one, unplug the drive, restart the program and see which drive letter is now "missing".

  10. Once you're satisfied that you will be writing the image to the correct USB/microSD media, you can proceed to the next step.

  11. Click Start.

  12. Safely remove the USB device by ejecting

  13. Plug the USB stick into a power-off SAM Stick and power it on. The boot sequence should try to use the USB stick first.

  14. Contact support with any furthers questions you might have
