How do I get my sign connected to the internet?
If this is your first time connecting your sign to the internet, you can get your sign connected in one of a few ways
- Ethernet cable
- This is the simplest method
- Simply plug in an Ethernet cable into the S.A.M Stick's Ethernet port and you should be good!
- Some enterprise networks require additional configuration or permissions
- WIFI
- Configuring the WiFi credentials on an IoT/Embedded device that has no keyboard, mouse, nor remote control is a little tricky
- ****** In all cases, you must first configure a WiFi Profile in S.A.M for your device before continuing ******
- Once configured and applied to the sign, there are a few methods of creating a temporary internet connection to deliver this profile information (essentially the WiFi name and password) to the device:
- Use Ethernet as above to connect to the internet and power up the S.A.M Stick.
- You do not need to plug in the screen if it is inconvenient to the location of the Ethernet cable, however it is sometimes helpful to see the information on the screen
- OR: Create a WiFi hotspot using your Android phone, your iPhone, or your laptop (if that feature is available). You will need to ensure the Access Point Name or SSID is one of the following: ENS, ENS2, or ENS3. The matching password for each one is found in the sign's configuration page under the Network tab in the section called Preset Wifi Profiles. If the sign does not connect within a minute of setting up this access point on your phone, verify that your SSID is one of the 3 allowed names, and that the password matches. You may need to power-cycle the S.A.M Stick to force it to connect.

- After attempting either of the methods above, monitor the sign in SAM in the sign's control panel. When the sign is online the heading should turn GREEN. The device will check in once per minute by default, so be patient.

- Check the events tab for the event "New configuration retrieved". When that message appears, you should be able to unplug the Ethernet cable, or turn off your phone's hotspot.
- Wait at least 2 more minutes to ensure that the device stays online, using the new WiFi configuration. After refreshing the configuration page, in the Network tab you should see

- You should also be able to confirm "SIGN REPORTED NEW INTERFACE wlan0" in the Events tab, for good measure
- You have successfully configured your S.A.M Stick to use WiFi to reach the internet. Great job!
